Mondays 7-9 PM
Want to crack open your writing? Create in a different way? Write subversively? In this class, we will explore fiction as an experiential reproduction of truth; this can be character truth, feeling truth, or a myriad number of other types of truth that must be told through writing. We will explore notions of origin, liminality and legacy and how they can pose as an alternative to the 5-point traditional story arc. Writers may include Toni Morrison, Sandra Cisneros, Antonio Lobo Antunes, Daphne Gottlieb, Arundhati Roy and others.
Writing Your Way to Zorgos with Kristen Caven
ZORGOS, the secret word introduced in The Bullying Antidote by Dr. Louise Hart and Kristen Caven, symbolizes the “superpower” that makes us immune to negative power dynamics, from the esperanto for “I will take care.” This discussion and writing workshop is part of The Zorgos Project, a city-wide read of The Bullying Antidote, and all participants will receive a free copy to read and discuss over the course of the workshop. At each meeting, participants will chose a writing prompt to explore a topic around their own experience from the assigned chapters to share wish an intimate group guided by the author.
Silencing the Critic Within with Terrilynn Cantlon
Wednesdays 7-9 pm
A lack of heard expression or seen identity can result in private internalized self-silencing. This private self-silence often coexists with multiple axis of societal oppression outside ourselves and in public; whereby the body, mind, intellect, spirit and identity are silenced along with the already persistent self-silencing we may use to try to survive societal silencing itself. We will form an intentional group of Writers and Artists who will “break the/se silence(s) together.”
